Hindang Cave : Getting there

Hindang cave is located at Brgy Hindang, one of the hinterland barangays in Iligan City. though there are a lot of road networks in getting there, one of the easiest access road is through Brgy Kiwalan.

If you are riding a bus or a jeepney, drop by at Granex Manufacturing plant Gate that is in barangay Kiwalan.

Along the highway you will see a small market of  Kiwalan. There is a terminal there for  habal- habal and jeepney. The road going up is then the access road to Barangays Bunawan, Kabacsanan and Hindang. The jeepneys there has to be fully loaded before it leaves for there are only quite a few of them who travel there. The jeepney trips going there would go on a one trip only which is cheaper or otherwise you would take a habal-habal and it would cost you much. I traveled by a bus from Cagayan de Oro and it was already noon when I drop by Kiwalan so I took a habal-habal to maximize time in getting to Hindang. Believe me, it was a bumpy ride. The road going there is very rough. It takes about 1-2 hours in getting to hindang.

We arrived at Hindang safely and the locals then instructed me to go to the barangay hall first and log in. The barangay officials are kind enough to look for a guide for me to the cave.

The trail going to the cave is not easy. You would go up in a mountain. It requires stamina for you would climb a steep slope going up. Inclinations could reach 70-80 degrees. The shade is minimal

I have to keep pace with my guide. I was gasping for air because we only had one or two stops. When we have reached the top of the mountain we can already see from back there the road of hindang and of the neigh boring mountains. We took a little rest trying to catch some air.
I realized that this getaway is like hitting two birds in a single shot; mountain climbing and caving.

After a short rest and quenched our thirst with water, we go down to the very rocky portion of the mountain that leads to the caves. The abundance of rocks makes it possible to have a have cave here. According to guide that there are still caves here that have not yet been explored. You have to watch your step in walking into these mountains for you might fall into a pit because there are gaps or holes in here that might possibly be a cave.

My guide,Bryan Aguilar, leading the way down on the rocky trail

After a short hike going down, we reach into a vegetation of trees where the entrance to the first cave is located
